No FedEx Ground
Posted on September 13th, 2007 No comments
So after a long time of wanting a new GPS, I got my new job and I got all set up, ready to go! This is going to be cool. I ordered my new GPS from GPS City. I thought I was the bomb-digity on this one!
Well, maybe I was, maybe I wasn’t. FedEx Ground has taken my package hostage. Here are a few, little known, facts about FedEx Ground:
- The drivers are all “independent contractors”.
- Live tracking is NOT possible, they update once a day.
- FedEx can not contact drivers.
- They *HAVE* to make 3 delivery attempts before they will hold your package at any given center
- They don’t have to make those delivery attempts in consecutive days. Just when they think its ok.
- FedEx phone reps will tell you different things every time you call
- If it requires a signature, you are pretty much screwed if you have a job. Take a day off, sit home and wait.
- Everything I have said here is based on what FedEx employees have told me. If I am wrong, ask them why!
There are probably some other fun items that I have forgotten, but that sums it up. I could have spent $10 for 2 day, but I thought “Oh, I can just pick it up!”. You can’t.
Someday I might get my GPS, but I don’t know any more!

Jet Ski fun

Sarah wanted to try out something new. She wanted to go out on jet skis. I was game, I mean they are fast, agile and fun! What more can you ask for? Well, we rented a couple of the Yamaha WaveRunners like in the picture there. We headed out onto Lake Allatoona. I did my normal playing and had LOT of fun! I mean, I was all over the place. Sarah was timid at first, but in the end, she was getting down right agro! It was a lot of fun.We rode for about 3 hours, got gas, went back and rode some more! We were almost done and I think we were both getting kind of tired. We were just exploring and stuff, not a lot of playing. We were headed back to the boat house, or in that direction when something went wrong. I took my hands off one side of the bars to motion something to Sarah when something went wrong. I will never know what.
Ultimately, a few hours later, a few x-rays and a cat scan and I have some fractured ribs. Oh well, that’s ok. I am getting better fast and start a non-physical job tomorrow, so we at least I don’t have to worry about killing myself at work! It was a great time, Sarah has taken great care of me since my un-timely get-off… I will survive!

Monkey Joes

We found this really cool place called Monkey Joe’s. Both Max and Derek both LOVE the place. It’s indoors, air conditioned and has TONS of the big bouncers. The kids play, parents can relax and stuff. They have free wireless for geeks (like me). It’s a blast.I will warn you, if you are a bigger person (adult), be careful on the slides! They are WICKED fast and you can get burned! The spots on your elbows take days, even weeks to heal!

My new riding partner!
Posted on September 7th, 2007 No comments
Spending a summer working in a bike shop does have some advantages. One of them was “EP” or employee purchase on bicycles. Can you believe that I worked there all summer and didn’t get a new bike for myself?I did get Sarah a bike. I picked her up a Trek 1600 WSD (Women’s Specific Design). We have tricked it out in all the latest in pink gadgets! It’s quite girly! The cool thing is that Sarah has been riding at least once a week since we got her the bike. She has also been working/running in the morning and her fitness is coming along nicely. It’s fun to go riding with her! She went from being afraid to stand up to attacking me up hills. I better be careful or I might end up chasing her up a mountain or something crazy!
