  • So here it is… hold me accountable!

In my last post (about 10 minutes ago) I said I was trying to lose weight. Well, here it is… I weighed in at 267 pounds this morning. This isn’t my heaviest in recent months, nor is it my lightest. My goal is to lose 100 pounds. In previous discussions, Sarah has said she doesn’t think I could weigh 167… I don’t know. Let’s address that when we get closer.

My plan, as lame as it is, is to try … eat right, take it one day at a time and see where it gets me. Just 1 day at a time. It’s kept me sober for 20+ years, so hey, maybe if I apply that as a good principle… maybe it will work. Anybody that wants to support/help/encourage me is welcome to, but it’s not a requirement of spouse-hood, sister-hood, in-law-hood or any other hood… I would just really like to get back in shape. I have no admitted it most publicly, so if you see me eating pie, nicely remove it from my grasp!

Since I gave up my spam counting obsession, I have managed to transfer my OCD behavior to something at least as worthless and/or exciting! I now have developed an obsession with updating my iTunes album art for all of my random music I have acquired over the years. You heard that right, those little icons that show up … or if you use coverflow… I am on it! I have to have them. It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.

Another recurring them in my life is popping up again. As of today (again) I am working hard on trying to lose some weight. Not long ago, I did the same thing. It seem that inevitably I fall off the wagon and eat pie over and over. I don’t know the solution, but things are going reasonably well. I didn’t gain TOO much weight over thanksgiving, I just have to keep trying. I am not sure what my ultimate solution is. I mean, I like to eat. I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs… my vice is food. I am good at eating. It’s unfortunate. Maybe I should become a vegan? Yeah, that’s me. All vegetables.

To get you up to speed… we went to Maryland for Thanksgiving. It was a nice fun trip. My sister showed up with her husband, so we had the whole famdamily there. Max and Derek were good. We went to the Uga Chucka Airplane museum or something like that… fun was had by all. It was really neat to stand about 20 feet away from a space shuttle. Oddly large. I’d live to actually tour that.

    I’m rambling. I will be back later…

I am officially retiring from spam counting. My 2+ month obsession is absolutely driving me crazy. I am averaging 220 a day for the month of november and seeing a number that high is making me nutz. I know you were all looking forward to 12/1 when I posted the most recent stats, but at this point I will simply say … LOTS! I can’t take it. There are more subtle geek reasons for this as well, but they would take a long time to explain. I will probably purge my well filled spam folder every few days now. The google mail setup is awesome, it stops most of them. I am glad I got that off my chest. I feel better already!

First of all, I am personally responsible for the sale of 2 MacBooks this week. One to my aunt and one to my mother-in-law. I do believe they will both like them a lot. Second of all, after Kathy (Aunt) spent several hours talking to the tech support guys last night, only to not have her iPod issues fixed, I was able to resolve the issue in a matter of seconds. That’s just wrong. I had heard Apple support was good, but being the guy that can baffle most any tech support crew, I doubt I will ever call them. Kathy was all in a tither about her podcasts and it took us all of about 5 minutes to get her sorted out.

Along the way, we did use iChat and did a video conference which was cool! Then I just asked to share her desktop, was able to take control and fix stuff. No tweaking modems, no sending emails, no hoops, joops or poops… just work. It is nice to not have to work on computers, just use the computers to make life better and stuff.

Macs that are 1 degree of separation from me (or less): Mine, Sarah’s, Gray’s, Kari’s, Alison’s, Kathy’s… maybe YOU are next! If you are bored, go to youtube and search on Mac v. PC. There are some really funny commercials on there!

    Signs may be misleading

Alright, so this should have been the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. I mean, seriously, it says “this stretch of road is made for Scott”. Well, let me break it down for you. The first thing wrong is it is not a road. Now, at lunch, on a little known bike path, it’s really not a busy and the path factor is minimized… I don’t at any time feel i endangered any other humans, I didn’t even see any humans…, however I feel that the good folx in the Cobb County path planning commission tried to kill me! (Well, not literally).

So bust a move rolling easy, but quick. Come around a corner and some chucklehead decided it was a good idea to put in a series of moguls! Yeah, bike path moguls. I got my over-sized arse airborne on the first one and grabbed a fist full of brakes before the second. It almost made me drop some kids off in my pants! Seriously what were they thinking? No warning “Speed Moguls Ahead”… I guess the moral of the story is don’t celebrate caution signs.

Ultimately, it all turned well. I went down… cruised around a bit and enjoyed the ride. I did some off road riding… on my road bike. It was fun! The path is too short for regular riding at lunch, but now I know where it goes.

  • 4425 – That’s the number

Keeping you up to date on my monthly spam progress! We saw a large increase in the middle of the month. A huge surge. For a while we were averaging well over 175 spam messages a day. It’s really kind of silly and annoying. I wonder who are the “learning challenged” people that are making this industry thrive?

On a related note, I read something the other day. It seems that people started sending spam as jpgs, then as pdfs, then as zipped files… the latest – mp3! That’s right, you can get spam that have to LISTEN to while the try to sell you something. I can just hear it…. “Hey overweight old lady living at the end of a dirt road using AOL …. does this sound like you? If you send me your bank account information, for just a small fee of $2.99 a second you will be able to watch home shopping network with a furby wearing lingerie!”

Seriously, who buys stuff from spam?
