  • My name is Scott and I ate cookies

So … two weeks ago today, I was full of vim and vigor and I went out for what was supposed to be a 35 mile ride. I was feeling REALLY good at 17.5 so I decided to go to a popular landmark and make it 40. It was a great ride for 25 miles. Unfortunately it was 41 miles long. I bonked, felt like ass and was miserable. The next day, I felt worse… I got home an weighed a record low. Well – something good came out of it (or… I was dehydrated and thats why I felt like dogmeat?

I had been doing REALLY good leading up to this – but I decided to rest for 2 days. After 2 days … I weighed in and had gained 4 pounds and my brain shit the bed. I entered into a tail-spin and came up with all kinds of crazy ways to NOT work out. I was off the wagon. It all came to a full on "relapse" yesterday when I decided to have two REALLY FREEKING GOOD cookies. I didn't buy them, I came upon them … I ate them.

Yeah, only a fat food addict can write a blog post about feeling like shit because he ate a stupid cookie. My co-workers caught me. (I didn't really hide, I walked past them eating it). They gave me a hard time (thank you) and I said – I'm making a change…. TOMORROW.

Well, I would have binged more at home last night – but we didn't have any junk (probably good). Today, I got up, had a healthy brunch (because I was chilling and playing video games and forgot to eat breakfast). I then headed to the comet and got in my bike ride. I'm back…. tracking my food and working out.

Why is this even remotely noteworthy? My typical trip off the wagon results in a 8-20 pound gain and lasts 4-52 weeks. I'm glad I was able to make a U-Turn and get back on it! I've got a big ride in 7 weeks (I think it's 7?)

Thanks for reading, if you made it this far!

So many posts now days are a line or two long. They are a photo with a snarky comment or a MEME that depicts some random stuff that we can relate with or we laugh at so we pass it on to our friends. I like it. I do it. I do it often. It's nothing for me to post a picture of some asshat doing something stupid or a nice vehicle – but I have all but quit my blogging. It comes and goes in spurts, but I almost ALWAYS like writing stuff. Sometimes I get upset that I don't get the likes/+1/retweets I want but that is the narcissist in me. As I get going (again) on a weight loss journey – I have a lot of random thoughts – so – I think I will share some of them – read on if you would like (probably didn't make it here!)

So yeah…. I kicked it off on 1/4. Why would I rush in on 1/1 like everybody else? LOL – no, Monday worked better for me and there was a DietBet starting that day. I said "I can make money and lose weight? Sign me up". I had to lose 4% in a month – I did that – and go through a bunch of hoops to win. It wasn't a big deal and I did win … so that's cool.

All of my efforts are focussed on getting back in shape overall. I am mixing things up, and eager to ride my bicycle more (its sometimes hard to get off my motorcycle and ride a bicycle). I'm gearing up for the Tour de Pink. I'm excited. I've never done a multi-day organized ride. I'm on a "Team" and we have raised a bunch of money (still need more… HINT). The people seem very friendly, we got some nice jerseys coming. Good news – I have a jersey, with pink on it, for every day! That is pretty cool!

I've been running again. I blame my slowness on my weight (probably a real factor) but I also realize I'm 47 now… i'm not 35 and one thing my parents never gave me was athletic ability. I make up for it in my pleasant disposition – especially around the office … LOL.

It's all good. I lost over 12 pounds in a month. I signed up for another DietBet … A transformer, more that meets the eye! I will be trying to lose 10% in 5 months. I think its' 3%, 3%, 2%, 2%, 2%…. so hopefully I can keep my streak alive and make good on this! If I do – I'll buy myself a milkshake and celebrate … and get back to work!

    Welcome back to the blog….
