Movember – BRING IT!

In about 1997 or 1998, I grew decided I was going to have facial hair.  Realizing that a mustache was not really in fashion, opted for a goatee.  Well – after growing what I thought was a goatee, I realized I had grown a Vandyk.  A Vandyck (also spelled Van Dyke) is a style of facial hair named after 17th century Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck. A Van Dyke consists of a mustache and goatee.  Mine is a contiguous – rap-around unit of fuzz (often in need a a trim) but it is uni-fur. I did – on one occasion experiment with a “soul patch” and a few other things… but I’ve enjoyed my facial hair.

On October 31, 2010 – all of that will change!  I will go under the blade.  I will remove all of my facial hair – and quite possibly all of the hair on my head (there is more on my chin than on top of my head…).  This will be in preparation for MOVEMBER!  Movember is a compound word composed of not one, but TWO words common in the English Language.  Mustache + November = Movember.   For the month of November, men around the world – including myself – will grow mustaches to raise money to fight cancer!  http://us.movember.com/ Not only will I be a participant, I have created a TEAM to help gather my friends and cohorts in the world of track racing to join in on this worthy cause!
